Year 5 go back in time...

Our strict teachers!
On Monday the whole of Year 5 found themselves transported back to Victorian times as we enjoyed a Victorian Day at school.  The whole day was spent acting as Victorian school children - even the PE teachers dressed up and got in on the act.  Here are some of the children's comments...
5S, some 130 years ago!

What I liked about today was I got some expirence on how strict teachers were in victorian times. I also liked making the elliptical illusion gadget, it was fun.  What I didn't like about today was the teachers were very strict and we got poor snacks. I also didn't like the teachers saying boy or girl instead of our

I really enjoyed victorian day especially when MR.Leke was dressed up as a victorian and also that I
wanted to wear the dunce cap and made everyone go like and about the dunce cap in the end everyone wanted to wear it I was also spooky like an  I was also a rich boy and then I liked the way you MRS.THOMAS/SWITCHROT
MRS.NAIDOO ACTED!
Thank You For Reading

I enjoyed was that the drill was really fun and the ink pen that we used. When we did the bowling, the wind kept on pushing the set up that we did. What i didn't enjoy was that the teachers were really strict, every time i made a tiny smile the teachers go strict,or if we need to ask a question had to stand up when another teacher comes we have to stand up. What i didn't enjoy was every time we go past a teacher we had to baw our heads. What i learned in the classroom was if we talk or laugh we would be in the corner with the dance hat on. What i liked in the classroom was we get to use the ink pen it was awsome!!.

Victorian day was nice except for the fact that we had to address our teachers by ma'am or sir. I also liked the events, they were amazing! i not like to have a victorian teacher every day because they are WAAAAY too strict. I also liked the optical illusions we made even though mine turned out to be upside down. Lamis likes optical illusions so mabye I should have asked her to disguise as me to do it.

I had so much fun on Victorian Day when  we all dressed up like Victorians- even the teachers .I dressed as a poor by and I loved my outfit.
The teachers were very strict and I hardly recognized them. We all had a Victorian lesson on writing when we wrote in pen and ink. Spelling was another lesson and we had to stand up and spell out loud. We had to write the 9,11 and 12 times tables. Even P.E. was different and so were the P.E. teachers. It was hard work .
Nurse Suter came to check us for nits. Snack time was bread and cheese.
We had a clean hand inspection and we were only called by our last names.
It was a very different day but I love it.

Today was awesome because it was ( VICTORIAN DAY)!!!
It was really fun ‘cause all the teachers were dressed up as Victorians  & so did the children from year 5 .I was a rich Victorian but all my friends kept on annoying me because they said that I looked like I was some kind of Big Boss or Manager of a company or something. And  just because  I was wearing a scarf like thing under my coat and I had puffed it up was the reason why they were calling me some kind of Manager or Big- -Boss .The best part was when I got to wear the Dunce cap because by mistake I called Mr.Suter  Ma’am Instead of Sir.
The good thing about Victorian day was that we learn’t   how Victorian children lived, how strict the teachers were and how different the poor children were from the rich ones .
But I have to admit that Victorian Day was a pretty good idea and was also pretty fun!!!

Victorian day
Today was Victorian, I wasn’t really happy at the first of the day our teachers we’re so stricked that if we walked and our hands are not by our sides the teachers have to shout at us. The most thing I liked about the day is when we had to write in ink pens. We also had pe it was horrible we had to be bored when we we’re playing. And also all day we could not laugh. Miss Thomas called herself Miss switchrot. But I liked the end of the day Miss Thomas wrote on the slate Miss switchrot is dead and the normal Miss Thomas came back and every one said yes!!.

I thought that the victorian day was quite fun. The teachers were all so strict  . Mrs Switchrot (Mrs.Thomas) and the rest of them were all beating up children with canes, chukies and wre making them stand on the corner with a dunce cap on . Mr.Suter checked our hands and nails to see if they were clean if not,in big trouble  . For lunch we only had cheese and bread  . In drilling we played bowling, bedminton, wth the holla hoop and throwing coins inside the cones to score one point . Finally in the end Mrs.switchrot was dead and Mrs.thomas had come back   .
Everybody were really excited   .

I enjoyed writing with ink.I never wrote with ink,it is so exiting. Using the slats was also fun.But what i didn't like is when we went up to the upper hall, that was really exhausting. The classrooms did interest me,because the tables and boards.I didn't like putting our hand on our laps in class. But it was really exiting learning about how victorian children had their day at school.

Sophia enjoying (!) her lunch.
I enjoyed the drill and the activities. I also enjoyed the relaxation at break time when I just sat down.
I did not enjoy the strictness of the of the teachers and my snack (bread, cheese and water).

I learnt about the victorian classroom, not to fidget with anything as it leads to a punishment, use ink while writing on paper and write on little boards with chalk.

What I enjoyed today is writing in ink pens and using them to write the Victorian alphabets.
I enjoyed  playing the old games.
I enjoyed experiencing the old victorion school.
I enjoyed writing on slates and with chalk.
I enjoyed when we did the collusion.
What I didn't is that the teacher was so strict like a Victorian teacher.
I didn't enjoy  that they had a dunce cap.
I noticed that each teacher had a stick,I think they used it for beating the child.
The teacher said us to not have to much fun.

I was a rich Victorian in the mien terrifying
Victorian day I thought that it would be very fun and not teachers beating us up with switches and wipes and sticks and I did not like it when the teachers called us by our last names and sometimes if the teachers did not know our names they would call us girl or boy.

Hello, my name is Carina and I am going to tell you if I liked the Victorian day, how I felt and what I learned from them. I did NOT like Victorian day because the teachers were so strict and everything was so different. I was scared because I thought I was going to be hit with a stick and I even thought I was going to wear the dofis hat or whatever they called it. Miss Naidoo dressed up so different and at the end of the day, when Miss Naidoo turned on the lights I was so happy!                    I learned lots of things and the first is that they only studied  three lessons and one activity and each time a teacher comes in they have to stand up , they are not allowed to say Miss ……… but they have to say Mame or Miss by itself.                                                      Thank you and I am very happy that I am not living a life like theirs.

Mr Leake drills the children
My experience of Victorian day was awful. I could not believe that the teachers were so strict in Victorian schools. We realised about Victorian children how terrible it was for them to bear the treatment from the teachers. They had assembly every morning and had to sing school song. They had to write with their right hand only and if they don’t they would get whipping. They use to have dictation every morning and had to sing another song before eating. They got whipping if they didn’t bring homework or lunch and if didn’t write in cursive handwriting.  They had gymnastics every day and they were very strict about walking in columns. They could not even smile and if they did then had to face the wall or get to stand in the corner and put on the dunce cap. This was my experience about the Victorian day.

My name is Simon and I am going to tell you about our Victorian day. It was amazing because when we did P.E. I thought I was going to be hit with the stick, instead I wore the hat I don’t know what it’s called. The worst part is when the teachers Mr.Suter, Miss.Naidoo and Miss. Thomas were strict. Anywhere we go we have to be quiet and no fidgeting. In class you have to say Sir for men and mam for women. Instead of saying “please may I go to the toilet?”You have to say “please may I go to the offices?”I say that’s the funny part. One more rule no drinking until school is done.  How can they survive that? It’s good we don’t have these rules in our school. Right?

It was a very nice experience for us to live one day like the Victorian time.
I like Ms. Thomas when she took the role of rude, strict teacher and she punished Murad by putting him a dunce cap.
I felt I was in a Victorian time when all boys and girls wore Victorian clothes. My favourite things was when we used victorian pen and ink.Really it was a very exciting day.

Thank you for making us have fun.

Today we had Victorian day at school. The first thing we did today was the register
but instead of our fist names our teachers called our last names and then we did
singing. After singing we went back to class. In class we did dictation and we were
not allowed to have repeats if you had to many complaints you would wear the dunce
hat and if you did not complete your homework you would stand against the wall and
get hit by the whip. We also had to pratice our times tables until the 9 times
tables then we had PE we had to do all sorts of activities each activity is only 5
minutes. Before PE we had to pratice writing we wrote with an ink well and a quil
pen. On Victorian day the year 5 teachers were all very mean. I did not know that
Victorian children could only eat cheese ,bread and drink only water at school.
Today the girls had a special class and the boys had a special class. The girls did
basket weaving and the boys did something else. Some were dressed up as rich and
some dressed as poor. Victorian day was over today I enjoyed some things but others
not really.

this is what i think of victorian day it was very very scary ms thomas scared me!!!!!!our teacher never shouts at is like that but i liked writing. i think we should write like that every day. i was a poor girl and i was sent to the corner for having a dirty face and mourad had to wear the dunce hat the weaving was hard  with the quill pen it was alot of fun and so was pe  the weaving was hard but still fun
so in other words the whole day was fun thankyou

Today in year 5 we had a victorian day. All of us enjoyed that day we wear  vicrtorians cloth ,ate
victorians food, wrote by pen ink as victorians pupils, acted as victorians pupils while they are lining.

It was funny to have the victorians punishments and our teacher Mr. Suter acted as Victorians teacher
while his talking and shouting.

There was very interesting to see my friends wearing as poor victorians damage clothes and without shoe
and others were wearing as rich children victorians. I was very happy to go to school wearing rich
children victorians cloth (black hat , dark jacket, white shirt , gray short and black shoe).

It was fun to play victorians P.E. and writing with the slate.

Today we had Victorian Day in the school.
I am sure everyone liked it.
I was surprised to see our class so silent.
The new things I did today it is writing by the old style pen and playing very nice games.
The handwriting by this pen is very beautiful. And games are required to be very powerful.
I loved “Alice in Wonderland” story, which Ms. Thomas was reading for us, and I am going to continue read it by myself.
I am happy because I did not get even one punishment today.

Today we had the Victorian Day in school. From the  time I entered school today,I Felt I was back in time to the Victorian times.Every student and teacher of year5 was a victorian today.STUDENTS came dressed rich and poor children..we could see the difference in the clothes .I FELT SAD LIKE THOSE POOR children.Even my teacher was mean like the teachers of the victorian times and we repeated the times table in the class. I did not like  it at all.
IN the break time we had bread and cheese only.OH i missed my usual break.I am thankful i was not born in the Victorian times, though i would not mind being Abraham GRAHAM BELL.
WE really experienced the victorian age and i know it better now.
THANK YOU ALL MY teachers.
