Here we are new to the Blog. We feel both of us make a good team. What do you think? We would like to hear comments! We hope to be supervising children in the near future to help them create their very own blog.
Welcome to the Year 5 blog - students in our year group will be regularly updating this to let you know what they are up to! Don't forget to regularly press the 'refresh' button in your browser to ensure you see new content.

Back on track
Dear all
Well we're not sure if many of you will continue reading our blog with the children now back in school, but we thought it might be nice to keep updating the blog - as a means of communication and to tell you what we're up to in school.
This week the staff had their photos taken - here are ours of the Year 5 staff. The children have really enjoyed being back and it's lovely to hear comments such as 'Yes, maths!'.
Please keep your comments coming in and if you have any suggestions for what you would like to see on this blog then do let us know.

School's back!
At last, we've reached the end of our home study period. We've all had lots of new experiences during this time, such as doing school work in your pyjamas! There have been positive things that have come from it, such as your ability to work independently at home. And you have all managed to use this blog well which shows your mastery of technology. Your parents have been fantastic, supporting you in your studies, although we are sure they will be more than a little relieved when you go back to school on Saturday. And as for us... Well, it's just not the same without you and we're looking forward to having you all back on Saturday!
As for our challenges... Lots of you tried to estimate Mr. Suter's height. Mrs. Williams has finally revealed that he is... 1m 84cms in his socks, so well done if you got close. Remember, an estimate is a sensible guess so give yourself a pat on the back if you were close.
How many of you have read the Hobbit by JRR Tolkien? If you had, you may remember Bilbo's riddles with Gollum under the Misty Mountains. The riddle "A box without hinges, key or lid..." comes from that passage of the story. Gollum had just as much trouble as some of you, but eventually realised that the answer was an egg.
A note from Mr. Gale for next week: Year 5 girls will be swimming on Sunday for 4 weeks. The arrangements for the swimming lessons will be that the girls are to come to school in their swimming costume under their PE kit and when it is their PE lesson they will come to the sports hall and drop of their school bag. They will then walk across to the pool.
Please make sure that you bring all your home study work back to school on Saturday.
That's it for our final blog for now - have a fantastic weekend, an early night on Friday, and we'll see you fresh and raring to go on Saturday morning!

Penultimate day of school closure!
Hi all
This is Mr Whitaker writing in from home as he's been poorly today - the wonders of being online!
Do you know what penultimate means? It means the second to last - so today is the second to last day of school closure, we hope you're getting excited - for us we just cannot wait to have you back!
There are a few new children starting in Year 5 - welcome if that's you and you're reading this now, we look forward to welcoming you to BISAK!
There have been a number of changes to the school calendar due to the school closure and we'd like to bring to your attention two notable changes. Firstly, the Victorian day that was scheduled for next week will now take part later on in the term, we will advise you of the new date in due course. Secondly, International Week has been postponed until the last week of term.
Be sure to check the blog tomorrow for our last post - you'll find all the answers you've been patiently waiting for (and no, I personally don't know the answer to the box riddle!).

School Rules!
It's great to see your comments about your experiences of working from home (and we are keeping track of those who haven't posted one yet!).
It does seem that many of you are enjoying not having to get up so early in the morning and having snacks as often as you want them! However, it seems you are missing a number of things including specialist lessons, your friends, your teachers (we're glad about that!) and help whenever you need it. We are pleased that, despite these difficulties, you have been coping really well and have generally been producing really good work under your own steam.
What comes across most of all from all of you, however, is that you all seem to be missing school very much and can't wait to start again on Saturday! Believe us, we are missing you too and are looking forward to resuming lessons next week. It's not quite the same coming into an empty classroom each morning.
Here's a puzzle for you. Mr. Whitaker read this teaser last night, and didn't know what the object was. Can you help him?
"A box without hinges, key or lid,
Yet inside golden treasure is hid. "
Who is going to be first with a correct answer? ...

Working from home
Welcome to the third and we hope last week of working from home. We have seen most of your parents and some of you today collecting your work, and look forward to seeing your completed work later in the week. Some of you are already completing your MyMaths work online, so well done! Students from Year 7 and up have been in today, but it is not the same without you!
Today's English task is to post a blog entry on your experiences of working from home, and how it compares to actually being in school. We have given you quite detailed instructions on what to include, so we do expect some lengthy entries, not just one or two lines. You shouldn't just include the answers to the questions on their own, but include your own thoughts and experiences also. We're looking forward to posting some of these up tomorrow.
Mr. Suter thought several parents were looking at him suspiciously this morning when they came in to school, but it turns out they were just trying to get a sneaky peek at how tall he is - Mrs. Williams is still refusing to give her answer, and claims that we haven't had a correct answer yet either. We'll post the answer at the end of the week, so those of you that haven't put in an estimate still have time to do so.

Bonne fin de la semaine!
Another week over! Can you believe you have been working so hard at home now for two weeks? As we always say, doesn't time fly when you're having fun!
Our challenge with Mr. Suter's height continues - Mrs. Williams is keeping her answer secret for now as she says that, as yet, no one has it correct! Oh dear! There are some close answers though - you're getting warm.
Give yourself - and your parents! - a well deserved break over the weekend. We look forward to seeing them on Saturday when they pick up next week's tasks. We think you'll enjoy them - particularly the maths, which has now been set through the My Maths website.
We know what we wanted to say on our heading on today's entry - but do you know what it means? We will pass your translations to Madame Jameson on Saturday - we are sure she'll be delighted that you are still thinking about French!
Have a good weekend!
